Writing to inspire, encourage, and enjoy

I am half a century old. That fact is strange to me. Here’s to fifty years, to what we leave behind, and bravely trusting God for the future.

Once in a while, here on my blog, I like to offer a bit more about myself and my writing.

In this fall season, I thought it would be fitting to post a scene that takes place in the autumn from my latest novel, In a Grove of Maples. In this display set up on my buffet, you’ll notice that I have a lit candle next to the book. It’s a specially made candle, by From the Page candles, to match my novel!! How cool is that?

Who’s thinking of Christmas in August? I am. 🙂 My first novella, Holly’s Homecoming, in my Botanical Seasons novella series releases November 4th, and I’m excited to share this sweet Christmastime read with you.

We all need a break, from time to time, and I have been badly in need of one. I took last week off and gave myself a staycation/writing hiatus. It was perfect, all except for last Monday.

On Thursdays on social media, I’ve been sharing a quote from my newly released historical fiction novel, In a Grove of Maples. Today, I thought I’d give my blog followers a glimpse into my Thursday excerpts.

Do you ever wonder where authors come up with book titles or the name of series? Let me tell you how the series title, Sheltering Trees, came to me.

I thought I’d share some of the inspiration behind the story of In a Grove of Maples, my upcoming historical fiction novel. When I finished writing my By the Light of the Moon series, I knew I wanted to go a different direction for my next novel and make it a less intricately woven story and one inspired by family.

How does it begin, the act of writing? With discipline and inspiration. Sometimes I have both of those before I open my iPad and write a blog post, a chapter in a novel, a poem etc . . . Other times, it’s one or the other.

It’s been a while since I sat down and let a poem come to me, so last night I focused on what gaining contentment looks like to me. Here is the product of my effort…
